Honduras Urpania Guzman Geisha
Honduras Urpania Guzman Geisha
JASMINE | WHITE GRAPE | CANDIED CITRUS
Years ago when Urpania Guzman, the matriarch of her family, was faced with the decision to sell the family's farms, she insisted on keeping ownership of the land so that her and her sons would be able to work their own land instead of going to go work for someone else.
Since then, Urpania and her sons have been able to purchase new plots of land for coffee production, including an exceptional plot close to our friend Benjamin Paz's farm La Salsa. This farm has been under production for several years now, and we remember walking the untilled soil with Urpania and her sons on a visit to their farm shortly after they had purchased the land.
Ever since we first began working with the family, they had impressed with their efforts to push quality, including planting the Geisha variety at this uniquely high elevation farm on the Santa Bárbara mountain. This is the first harvest of this coffee—a tiny quantity, not even a full exportable bag, but this is the coffee we had been waiting to taste, full of classic varietal floral flavors, as well as the complex citrus and sweetness from this farm's terroir and Urpania and her family's efforts.
